Aala has co-authored two family skills programmes for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. These are Strong Families and Family UNited. She has provided training for these programmes on behalf of UNODC in 10 countries.

Aala trains NGO workers, therapists, psychological staff, school teachers, and families on Family Skills. She also trains and supervises research assistants and field workers in refugee contexts and conflict zones on research methods such as project set up, protocol development, research management, data collection, participant measure completion and working to the correct ethical guidelines.

In addition she is an accredited trainer on existing trauma recovery and Family Skills programmes such as:
